Macleans Primary wins 'Writer's Quiz' competition!

Every year there is a 'Writer's Quiz' competition and this year it was held at Baverstock Oaks. Six children from Year 6 had been preparing for the Writer's Quiz since Week 11 of Term 1. They had to read fifteen books and remember the information. For training they had to write book reviews, create a vocabulary chart and make up their own questions from the selected book list.

Mrs Beach was in charge of choosing the school teams. She chose two teams, each team with three children.

Then, on Tuesday 12th July, they went to Baverstock Oaks School to compete with other schools. There were eighteen schools that competed for the Writers' Quiz Trophy.

The atmosphere was really tense, all the other chiildren chatted quietly, amongst themselves until the presenter thanked 'Readaway Books' for the prizes. The Macleans' teams were nervous but they were also very excited, too.

During the rounds, six of the questions came from two books and two questions were on quotes. After the 4th round Macleans Primary Team A had a huge lead. By round 6 the lead was so long that even if they didn't score in Round 7 they would have won the competition. Macleans Primary B team had a respectable placing.

The teams didn't know the results until the very end, which made it very exciting. The presenter announced the 3rd and 2nd placings adding to the suspense of the occasion. By then the Macleans' teams knew where they had come. Everybody congratulated them for an outstanding performance. Team A were invited to the stage to collect the trophy, certificate and the $25 book voucher.

"I felt very surprised and mostly relieved when the competition finished. I thought Joyce was going to mess up with the last question, but she didn't, she came though." laughed Cassandra.

"I felt really proud that we had won, we had worked very hard for more than a term. The reading was shared with school and in our own time." beamed Joyce.

A big thank you to Mrs Beach for coaching and organising the team!
