Welcome Parents and Caregivers

We are delighted that you are considering enrolling your son/daughter at Macleans Primary School.

Throughout the web site you will find a range of information about our school.

Macleans Primary School has an open enrolment policy although the majority of our pupils live in reasonably close proximity to the school. A detailed prospectus is available upon request from our school office along with enrolment forms.

Parents considering enrolling their children at our school are welcome to contact the school office to arrange a time to visit the school and meet with the Principal or one of the staff. During this time we will tour the school so you can see first hand the child-centred classrooms, modern facilities and spacious grounds.

For parents with pre-schoolers we provide the following opportunities for you to visit the school prior to your child turning five years old.

ENROLMENT POLICY

RATIONALE:

The staff and children will present a friendly welcoming atmosphere to all.

PURPOSE:

1. To ensure that the provisions of the charter are met.

2. That the by-laws of the Ministry of Education be adhered to

3. Provide a transition from home life / pre-school or contributing school
which is supportive and smooth.

GUIDELINES:

  • Enrolment procedures will conform with Ministry of Education requirements.

  • Parents / caregivers are provided with a standard NZPF enrolment form and school prospectus when enrolling their child.
  • Enrolments will be handled by the office staff and / or principal.  All enrolments will be subject to the Principal’s approval.
  • Pre-enrolment interviews and tours of the school are available upon request.

  • Pre-enrolment meetings are held each term for parents of prospective new entrants.

  • New entrant children are encouraged to attend a pre-entry visit to the next entrant classroom prior to starting school.

  • Verification of each student’s age and residency status must be provided at the time of enrolment.

  • A copy of the student’s New Zealand Birth Certificate, Passport, Refugee status documentation or Certificate of Naturalization showing their residency status must be attached to their enrolment form.
  • Children who do not have permanent residency will be required to present their Student Permit to the Principal prior to commencing school or within the 28 day period provided for in the Education Act 1989.  The 28 day period rules may also be used when families are reapplying for permits. The enrolment of International Students will follow the guidelines of Policy B2A International Students.
  • It is the parents responsibility to ensure that their child’s student permit remains valid.  The school will monitor this on a regular basis.

  • Parents / caregivers are expected to disclose custodial arrangements and health details that may affect the child while at school.  Opportunity will be provided for these matters to be discussed confidentially with the Principal.
  • Immunisation Certificates will be requested from parent / caregivers when enrolling children.

  • Enrolment is available to all parents who wish to enrol their children at the school.  Issues related to living outside the traditional school catchment area will be discussed with prospective enrollees.

  • Placement will be based on age.  The end of the first school term will usually be the cut-off point between year groups.  Consideration will be given to the special needs of a pupil.

  • Student Enrolment Records, for children previously enrolled at other schools in New Zealand, will be requested in writing from the previous school within seven days of the child beginning attendance at this school.
